Man killed by a train during busy rush hour



A man was killed after he was struck by a train during the busy rush hour yesterday afternoon.

The man was hit by the 12.30pm Manchester to Milford Haven service at around 5pm.

A number of ambulances were called but the man was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police have released no further information about the victim’s identity.

Detectives do not believe that the incident was suspicious.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Gorseinon, Swansea on Friday December 13, 2013 after a report that a person had been struck by a train.”

“Officers from the BTP and Dyfed-Powys police attended the incident which was reported to police at 5.05pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.”

“Paramedics from the Dyfed-Powys ambulance service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“A file will be prepared for the coroner. The train involved was the 12.30pm Manchester to Milford Haven service.”

National Rail confirmed that no trains were running between Llanelli and Swansea following the incident.

Trains across the valleys lines were delayed last night, said passengers.

Arriva Trains Wales confirmed that there had been an ‘incident’.
